Mike Amodeo’s '78-'79 Winnipeg Jets Avco Cup Championship Ring!
>>> DETAIL <<<
This is an impressive gold memento that commemorates the Winnipeg Jets’ 1978-79 Avco Cup title, their third championship in four years which capped off the team’s successful seven-year run in the World Hockey Association. It was presented to defenceman Mike Amodeo, this treasure features three diamonds incorporated into the Jets logo on the tableau. “WHA Champions” surround it while inscriptions on one shank include the team’s name, its Avco Cup championship seasons, Winnipeg’s seven years in the WHA and an “NHL ‘79” mention. A likeness of the championship trophy is on the other shank along with “Amodeo” and “1979”. Stamped “Jostens 10K” on the interior of the band where a scripted and engraved “Wpg 7 – Edm 3” references the score of the Jets’ clinching victory over a young Gretzky and the Oilers in the finals which Winnipeg took four-games-to-two. Huge ring is a whopping size 15+ and shows only light wear. This is from Mike Amodeo’s personal collection, with his signed letter of authenticity.

Here's hoping that in the not to distant future there is a Winnipeg NHL championship knuckle buster to add to the WHA mementos.

Love those ring pics. I never seen them before. God, how I miss my Jets. Pipe dream, but wouldn't it be awesome if they won the cup the first year back? Kind of like Colorado's first year. Man, that must have sucked HUGE to be a Nords fan.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments, Scott. Yeah that's a good point you've raised--luckily, we never had to worry about that scenario playing out in Phoenix...and I don't think we ever will!
